Seniors

Important Senior Dates for Fall 2006

ACT/SAT; All seniors should take the ACT in October or December.  Vouchers from the State of Tennessee are available for Seniors to pay for one ACT test and can be picked up from Mrs. Hinton in the Guidance Office. If you use a voucher you must register with a paper packet available on the bookshelf in Guidance. For more information or to register online check out these websites: ACT – www.act.org or SAT – www.collegeboard.com

How to request a transcript: Official transcripts can now be requested for college applications by filling out a transcript request card in the Guidance office.  Students will need to know the name and address of where they want the transcript sent to.  Transcripts will be sent approximately two weeks after we receive the request.

How to request a counselor or teacher letter of recommendation:  Due to the volume of requests, teachers and counselors need 2 – 3 weeks notice for writing letters of recommendation for college admissions.  Many colleges have there own form they want completed so please download this form and bring it along with a self address stamped envelope to the teachers or counselor you are seeking the recommendation from.  If a form is not needed please hand write your request along with the stamped and addressed envelope.

Senior Parent Information Night will take place Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 5:00pm in the Hillsboro Library.  This meeting will conclude prior to the school wide open house at 6:00pm.

Financial Aid Night for seniors and their parents will be Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at 6:00pm in the Hillsboro Auditorium.  Mr. Jason Seay from Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation will present information regarding the Lottery Scholarships and other sources of financial aid.

Lottery Scholarships: For information about the different types of Lottery Scholarships, who qualifies and how to apply go to www.CollegePaysTN.com  This website is easy to use and has links to other useful information for seniors and parents.  For students without internet access at home, computers are available for use in the Guidance office during lunch.  Paper copies of this information are also available on the book shelves in the Guidance.

Scholarships: Two of the best ways to look for scholarships (besides the Lottery) is through the College or University that the student is planning on attending and the parent or student’s employer.  Other good website sources are  www.fastweb.com , www.finaid.org and www.scholarships.com  Coming sometime in late September guidance will have available a spread sheet of numerous scholarships, something for everyone!  This information will be available online and in paper form.
