Strategic Plan - Representatives from MNPS, Kecia Ray and Alvesia Wilson-Hawkins spoke on the Strategic Plan for 2007-2014.  The goal is to obtain widespread community input into developing objectives for the next 7 years.  They are in the 3rd of 5 phases. 10 meetings will be held between March 11 and May 14th on Thursday nights across the city to develop actions in the following 9 areas:  student support, academic excellence, safety, staff, educational options, student achievement, family involvement, community support, excelling at all levels.  You can read the minutes of each meeting on the MNPS website and make comments there during this process.  Those who wish to participate on an action team should contact Kesia at 259-8402 or kecia.ray@mnps.org.

Student Council - Issues Day will be March 28th.  Students can go to more than 1 session during 2nd, 3rd and 4th period.  You must sign up in advance.  Topics include illegal immigration, domestic violence, capital punishment, right to life and others.  It will be a great program.  Student council elections will be next month.

Guidance - Sallie Swor is out for several weeks due to illness.  In her absence the Juniors will be distributed to the other counselors.  The district 9th grade writing assessment will be next week.  End of course exam dates May 1-9; Gateway tests May 1-4. Transcripts for Juniors and Seniors are coming soon.  The Chinese acrobats that performed for the Burro tag assembly were wonderful.

Principal's Report - After a tip from Overton, a gun was found last Monday in a car.  It was confiscated.  We are a family. We have to take care of each other.  The kids are important part of the process.  These are aberrational times; people do aberrational things.

Attendance - At 93% we have the highest of any comprehensive high school in Metro.  Burro time and one lunch contribute.  7 schools have looked at our lunch this year.

Open enrollment - 218 have applied; we will take as many as we can based on our projected enrollment.  We have applications from all but one high school in Nashville, several from out of county, 14 from private school, many from magnet middle schools.  We had 90 the first year and 170 last year.

Advertising on sport fields has been approved.  I recommend we start slowly.

Prime Trust Bank offered a meal and savings bonds for the boys that went to Paragon Mills for the father-daughter lunch.

Hillsboro East II is now paid for.  We are the largest single contributor to the Saigon Children's Charity ($32,910 to date).  We have given 344 scholarships, bicycles, and rice.  Hillsboro East I will open this fall.

Treasurer's Report - a copy of the budget is on the tables.  Our budget goals have been met.

Executive Committee - Approved funding for the ecology trip

Cluster Report - Standard school attire meeting facilitated by Liz Fey was held. Notes are being compiled and will be on the website.  March 12 at 6:30 MNPS will hold new telephone surveys.  The board will vote in April.  Carrabas donated food for the teen panel discussion by the Oasis Center.  Blogs are a way of improving the good news about Metro schools.  We may also mentor schools without PTAs and work on clear paths from elementary to high schools.

Alumni/Bluebird - Bluebird at the ‘Boro will be March 15th.  $20 adults and $10 students.  Talent includes:  Baillie and the Boys with Lance Hopkins (formerly with Orleans), Sullivan, Rand Bishop, Don Schlitz, Kent Blazy, Mac Cooper will be the MC, Danny Petraitis, and a special faculty performance
